Likely Manchu Conquest to Qianlong Period, Qing Dynasty

Blade Length: 78 cm / 30 3/4"
Overall Length: 94 cm / 37"

An exceptionally long example of a Qing-period Yanmaodao (Goose Quill Saber), likely dating from the Manchu Conquest period through the Qianlong era.

At 94 cm overall, this saber is notably longer than many surviving examples of the type and was likely intended for a mounted officer. Its nearly straight blade reflects the characteristic geometry of the Yanmaodao, combining effective cutting capability with a strong capacity for thrusting.

The saber retains steel hilt fittings and a tunkou characteristic of the period, preserving important elements of its original Qing military character. The blade displays age and patina consistent with an antique weapon of this period.

The original scabbard has not survived; the saber is accompanied by a renewed modern wooden scabbard, made to properly house and protect the blade.

A substantial and historically evocative example of the Qing military saber tradition, particularly notable for its unusual length and mounted proportions.

Condition: Antique condition, with patina and wear commensurate with age. Please refer closely to the photographs for the current condition and details of the piece.

Selected for the Seven Stars Swords Antique Collection by Scott M. Rodell.
